I’m always looking for the end of each post not because I don’t like blogging (I loove blogging!) but because it became some kind of tradition to post the findings on da Wanda, Etsy, lov.li & Co. at the end of each entry.
Serving the dessert:)

Shamelessly promoting ourselves today:)

24. September 2007 - 1:34 am Uhr

We added some new items to both our da Wanda and Blujay store and sure we are interested in at least you opinion (and some sales here or there)… We decided to add some articles to both stores to see wether there are different interests and reactions like the number of visites and things like that.

There was a thread on indiepublic some days ago where somebody asked if it is as easy to sell handcraft goods in europe as it is in the US or australia or if people from europe hesitate buying online.

Well from our Berlin/Germany point of view it seems like many europeans simply don’t know about the big handcrafting communitys like etsy, indiepublic, even da Wanda and more. While using the internet for years now and knowing the germyn blogsphere for quite a long time it is a little strange that we found out about Etsy in july this year witch is extremly late for such a big and successful site… This is of course very subjective, we’ll see what happens when da Wanda has grown a bit (vote for them!).

Another point could be that excepting the United Kingdom europeans speak other languages than english. Even if almost everybody learns english at school it is much easier to communicate in the native language. Especially when it comes to special vocabulary (we’ve never learned “hard plated silver wire” or the difference between “pearls” and “beads”, in german every ball with a whole inside is a pearl, you’ve surely already noticed that we do a lot of mistakes… it is unprofessional and awkward.)

But people will get use to it, there’s no way round english these days and no way round the internet, too. Let’s better check the different reactions from Blujay users and da Wanda users for these new products (pressing the images will lead you to the store):

Boo!…blog reading day

21. September 2007 - 3:05 pm Uhr

I read blogs today. I often do, but today I read a lot and there are some I’d like to promote here as they are really good:

The first blog that attracted my attention was ThisRocksMySocks. It allows a view behind the shop windows and showcases and gives chosen designer a chance to tell something about themselves and their work in an interview.

Brandi from Catie’s Blue set it up to “feature amazingly talented people in the online art community” and I think that’s a great idea! I’ll come back to read more (from both blogs:))

And I found a new toy there by the way: bravenet web tools, thank you Brandi:)

Whenever I read blogs about craft I do not only read the entries but also havean eye on their sidebars to find out where the blogs are listed and what kind of community they join. One thing I’m wondering about is that almost nobody or only few blogs are listed on technorati, is there a specific reason for that? Technorati to me is a must have as it is the biggest community for blogger and it is a great toy if you want to know who links to your blog. Well Wordpress blogger send and receive Ping- and Trackbacks, but blogspot for example does not as far as I know so technorati is a good toy to find out who reads your blog…

This is the cutest ghost I’ve ever seen:

Halloween is coming, no doubt about that:)

I found these cute lampwork beads while reading through some blogs on Creations by Kris and they really made me stop reading but taking a look to Creation by Kris’s Etsy shop for more… take care, Cristmas is on it’s way, too:

Oh, what a week.
Whenever I think all technical problems are solved something completely unexpected comes along.
I don’t know what it was but suddenly my computer decided not to work no more. I hope he just had a bad day or something like that… I miss the Internet a lot when I can not surf a little and check all the news and stuff!

OK but at this very moment everything seems fine and I can take some time and put some indie news and topics together:

Sara from Saras Texture Crafts has set up a new blog for all da Wanda sellers to promote their shops: On da Wanda Shop Directory shop owner can add their shop links to the directory, become a featured seller by posting some information about their shop and products to the blog or can inform about special offers and sales. The first entries can be seen already and we hope a lot more take part as it is a good chance to attract new buyers and to find new shops and products. (Of course we take part:)).

I have found some new links to directories of crafting sites and blog that I’ve added to the useful links page, take a look, you’ll surely find some useful new sites for you business or can help us to complete the list by sending us you favorite craft sites:)

Last but best: New stunning findings from the big universe of handmade goods:

I tag my today’s featured items with relax:

good things grow slow but constantly…

18. September 2007 - 11:51 pm Uhr

…right?

I alway have to get used to the design and the functions of any website before I start with it.
Blujay is such a case, it is a 100% free online marketplace where you can open a shop and add as many products as you like and I started last week with a test, just to see how it works.

I added just one item so I didn’t expect much traffic. (There is a visitors counter for every item you offer). I was surprised how well it went even if the community aspekt is so perfectly organized as on da Wanda or Etsy. (Nevertheless the reactions in the forum are very nice and open minded.)

I think I am now going to sell my antiques and all the unique but not handcraft things there for a while,to see how it grows. So here is my latest entry: a 1950’s style small milk can (attention: it’s only 3 inch, not as big as it looks on that picture:)) made in former east Germany:

    StyleFeeder

    18. September 2007 - 2:37 pm Uhr

Just a few notes about a nice toy to promote your products: the StyleFeeder.
StyleFeeder is a widget just like the one you can see on our right sidebar and it works like this: all you have to do is to install a little program that allows you to add any product you like and you want to promote on your StyleFeeder Widget.

If you like to add a picture from your shop for example you go to your shopsite and choose a picture. A StyleFeeder button on your toolbar then opens a little window where you can add tags and a little description to it. Your list of items will not only be shown on your Stylefeeder but to many others as there is a growing StyleFeeder community that can see what you’ve added and can add your products to their lists as well and at least everybody can rate listed products from “hate it” to “love it”. (That’s kind of brutal sometimes:) But then you know what people want and what they don’t want…)

The pictures are all linked with the description of the product on StyleFeeder Homepage and a link to the original page is added, try it with our StyleFeeder if you like… You can add the Widget to every page you have to present your Style to a bigger audience and join the community. There are more features to find out on StyleFeeder.com
